n. 1. An audience-participation dance improvisation “happening” in which players face the ominous Wheel-O-Miss Fortune in tests of stamina, wit and willingness to move. Challenges may include but are not limited to:
Re-creating 30 seconds of a video clip; dancing a duet with a professional dancer; immediately creating and executing an impromptu dance to a song selected by the audience or even Miss Fortune herself.
2. A place where would-be dancers can emerge from the privacy of their living rooms to perform their here-to-fore unseen “grooves” to a song of their choice. Liquid courage available at the bar prior to and during the proceedings.
Finally the dance improv game show you never dreamed of!
For further information or to submit a proposal for dance-a-raoke, contact HDC manager, Kathryn Wilkening here.
Through its Education Outreach Initiative, the Y helps fuel the dreams and imagination of over 8,000 New York City public school students each year.
Y Outreach programs in the visual and performing arts, science and literature combine: professional music and dance concerts, literary readings, discussions with renowned scientists and art exhibitions; classroom and private instruction at the Y; the presentation of student readings, artwork and performances in the Y’s galleries and recital halls.
The Afterschool Scholarship Program makes the Y's resources and faculty in the visual and performing arts available to children from families who could not otherwise afford this type of high quality arts instruction. Students study subject matter ranging from Afro-Caribbean Dance to Portfolio Preparation to Keyboards and Theory.
The Schools Partnership Program allows the Y to "adopt" public schools with virtually no arts programs, providing 1,650 students in four Upper Manhattan schools with 21 weeks of dance, theater and music instruction per year.
The budget for the Education Outreach Initiative is $1.4 Million per year and the Y’s total scholarship expenditure is $1M per year—Much of this funding is contributed to the Y!
-$5,000 Provides curriculum-based in-school instruction, and brings over 700 K-3rd grade students from NYC public schools to the Y to experience a concert by acclaimed international performers.

-$500 Provides in-school instruction, and brings a group of students together with a nationally recognized author to enjoy dinner and Q&A before a lecture and reading at the Y.

Welcome to a new season! We look forward to seeing you in our concert hall. What is Central Europe? For much of the 20th century the world generally thought of Europe in political terms of east or west. Yet there is an older cultural entity that is Central Europe, which occupies both east and west. It is a world that gave us the string quartet and great works of music, literature, philosophy and many more riches.
As we mark the 20th anniversary of the Iron Curtain’s fall in 1989 and the subsequent re-emergence of Central Europe, the 92nd Street Y concert season explores its musical legacy. András Schiff focuses on Haydn through the keyboard; Christian Tetzlaff and artists from our Guitar Marathon offer viewpoints of Bach; the Tokyo String Quartet continues its Beethoven cycle with guest pianists; the Zukerman ChamberPlayers offer fresh perspectives on Brahms; and leading artists from Hungary present its outstanding repertoire and literature.
Our season offers great musical opportunities, from solo recitals to family concerts. I encourage you to look through the following pages and find all the joy that our music has to offer you.
P.S. Are You 35 or Younger? If you or someone you know is 35-years-old or younger, specially priced, discounted subscriptions are available! Check the pricing information on each page for 35-and-younger subscriptions.
