Beth Edwards was born in Syracuse, NY and started dancing at the young age of five. While in high school, she spent four consecutive summers at the New York State Summer School of the Arts where she had the opportunity to learn and perform works by choreographers such as Paul Taylor, David Parsons and Robert Battle. Beth went on to study at SUNY Purchase, focusing her senior year on repertory by Mark Morris. In 2006 she traveled to the Hong Kong Dance Festival with the Purchase Dance Corps to perform a new work by Lauri Stallings. Also while at Purchase, Beth danced for choreographer Nelly van Bommel as part of her company, NOA Dance.
Since earning a BFA in Dance Performance, Beth moved to New York City and has had the pleasure of dancing with Barkin/Sellisen Project, Natalie Desch of Doug Varone and Dancers, Rosalind Newman, SYREN Modern Dance and VIA Dance Collaborative. In spring 2009 she collaborated and performed with fellow Purchase graduates Meredith-Lyn Olivieri and Sarah Zitnay, both as part of the WAXworks showcase at Triskelion Arts. She continues to work with various choreographers on projects and festivals, most recently as a dancer of Leanne Schmidt and Company as well as VIA Dance Collaborative.
In addition to performing and teaching, Beth has worked in arts administration and is a math and reading tutor for elementary and middle school students.
Most importantly, Beth believes in building an environment free from judgment, where every student, dancer and artist is able to learn, create and be inspired.
