Teen Performing Groups
A special feature of the 92nd Street Y Harkness Dance Center's Children's Program are our five Teen Performing Groups including: The Harkness Youth Ballet; Young Masters Repertory Ensemble; Fresh Y Crew & The Crew Girls; Tap Team; and the 92nd Street Y Lindyhoppers. Registration is for the full year and includes all classes, rehearsals and performances. Admission is by interview and audition/teacher recommendation. Some partial scholarships are available. Interested families should call Harkness Dance Center Director, Renata Celichowska to register for the audition and for further information, 212.415.5552.

Harkness Youth Ballet / 12-18 yrs
Lenore Pavlakos-Morales, former principal dancer with Dance Theatre of Harlem, leads our performing group for young ballet dancers. Harkness Youth Ballet repertory consists of classic and contemporary ballet repertory, designed to showcase the age and skill level of our young dancers. The group performs at various venues during the spring semester. Members are required to take either Ballet B, C or D. Ballet D level dancers are expected to be proficient on pointe. Registration is for the full year and includes tuition for classes, rehearsals and performances. Separate registration for Ballet B, C and D not required.

The 92nd Street Y Tap Team / 12-18 yrs
Our performing group for intermediate/advanced teenage tap dancers is led by experienced show dancer/choreographer Vic DiMonda. The group meets once a week to sharpen tap skills in a combination of Broadway, hoofing and rhythm tap styles, and rehearses show numbers to be performed at various venues during the year.
At least two years of tap experience are required to audition.

The 92nd Street Y Lindyhoppers / 12-18 yrs
Prize-winning swing dance competitor Katrine Bangsgaard leads our performing group for teenage swing dancers. Class meets once a week to build skills in swing, jitterbug and lindy-hop, including swing-outs, pull-throughs and lifts, and to rehearse dance numbers that are performed at various venues throughout the year. Lindyhopper members are required to take Swing for Teens or, by instructor permission, Basic Swing. Registration is for the full year and includes tuition for classes, rehearsals and performances. A basic knowledge of swing is preferred but not mandatory. Beginning students receive special instruction during the first few classes of the semester.

Young Masters Repertory Ensemble / 12-18 yrs
Jessica Nicoll leads our performing group for young modern dancers. YMRE meets once a week for improvisation and composition exercises leading to student choreographic studies, performed at various venues in the spring along with work by a professional guest artist. Company members are required to take Modern B or Modern C. Registration is for the full year and covers class tuition, rehearsals and performances.

Fresh Y Crew (Boys Only) and The Crew Girls
The Fresh Y Crew/Crew Girls is a jazz/hip-hop performing group led by Sal Pernice, a veteran of nine Broadway shows. The group rehearses on Monday afternoons. Athletic moves and partnering are added to the basic hip-hop vocabulary to create a dance form uniquely suited to teenagers. Company members are required to take Jazz D and are permitted to take Adult Jazz Funk classes (with departmental and parental permission only). Classes, rehearsals and performances included in the fee. Fresh Y Crew also accepts a limited number of 11- and 12-year-old apprentices who practice with the group, understudy roles, accompany the group to performances and have special cameo performance roles.
