    Monday 3:45-6pm, Tuesdays 3:30-6pm, Thursdays 4-6pm (only 1 day required)
    Glue, feathers, beads, and so much more! This project will bring out the artist in you as you sit down with elementary school-aged children to create works of art using different mediums. For high school students only.
     
    Big SIBS @ an After School Program
    Mondays-Thursdays 4-6pm, Fridays 3:30-5:30pm (1-day or 2-day commitments required)
    Did you ever have an older brother or sister that you looked up to? This is your chance to be that cool older person to another child! Spend the day playing games, doing art projects, helping them with their homework, or just listening to their stories. The extra attention will mean the world to them and will be rewarding for you.
     
    Checkmate
    Wednesdays 3:45-5:30pm
    Calling all chess fanatics! Take part in teaching elementary school children the tricks to get across the board. You will be assisting a chess instructor with three classes of varying levels. For high school students only.
     
    Cook N Give
    Tuesdays 4-6:15pm
    “My grandmother can make a mean meat loaf!” She had to learn somewhere! Cook up a storm with our fabulous chef Steve Herman. Students will take turns delivering the meals to a nearby police or fire department.
     
    Green Apple Mini-Corps
    1 day per weekend (day and time to be announced weekly)
    Do you love being outside? Do you have an interest in the environment and our cities open spaces?  Do you like getting dirty? Join the GreenApple Mini-Corps and help beautify New York City by working on projects in parks like Central Park, Riverside Park and St Nicholas Park. Help with the Million Trees NYC Street Tree initiative. In addition to the field work this program is also meant to give you an understanding of the urban environment and the challenges it faces. Once again you will be led by members of the GreenApple Corps, an AmeriCorps program within New York City's Parks Department.
     
    Homework Help @ an After School Program
    Mondays-Thursdays 4-6pm (only 1 day required)
    Spread the knowledge that you have gained over the years by passing it onto elementary school-aged children in a relaxed atmosphere. Tutors assist children with math, spelling, reading, and science. This project will create friendships that the kids will remember for a long time to come. Must be a junior or senior in high school.
     
    Hospital Volunteer
    Tuesdays 4-6:30pm (16-week commitment)
    While the doctors are restoring the health of their patients who are in the hospital, you will have the opportunity to restore their spirits.  This project involves spreading goodwill and learning about various hospital professions.  Special training will be part of this experience. Must be 15 years or older. Priority registration required. Please contact Joey for additional registration materials.
     
    Little Chefs
    Thursday, Fridays 4:45-6:15pm (only 1 day required)
    Love to teach kids but looking for something with a little more flavor? Take part in a cooking class for children, where work and play mean the same thing! Volunteers will be assisting the instructor with ingredient preparation, clean-up, and of course, helping the little tykes feel their way around the kitchen!
     
    Not So With Board Games w/ the 92Y 60+ Program
    Wednesday, 3:30-4:30pm
    Once a week, stop by and play board games with anyone interested in making a new, young friend at The 92nd Street Y’s 60+ program for Seniors.  Spend an afternoon once a week playing chess, Mahjong, or just chatting with one of the 92Y’s seniors members.Warning: 60+ members are known to squeeze the cheeks of teens.
     
    Reading Circles
    Tuesdays, Thursdays 4:45-5:45pm (only 1 day required)
    "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go." (Dr. Seuss) Help children unfold the magic within books by reading aloud with them. Not only will they use their imagination, you’ll unlock yours too! For middle school students only.
     
    Serve It Up!
    Mondays and/or Wednesdays 4-7pm (only 1 day required)
    Over 300 hundred homeless individuals and families stop by the Yorkville Common Pantry for its dinner program. Throw in some elbow grease and help Pantry staff serve dinner and dessert, pour beverages, pack take-out, as well as make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for emergency situations.
     
    Shop Keeping for the Housing Works Thrift Shop
    Wednesdays 4-6pm
    Last year, Housing Works Thrift shops rose over $10 million for homeless New Yorkers affected by AIDS/HIV. Be a part of this amazing organization by lending a hand at their shop on 90th Street and 2nd Avenue! You and your peers will be accepting in-store donations, organizing them into different categories, and assisting donors with donation inventory list completion. Special projects include designing the store front

    The 92nd Street Y has an outstanding after school program for young people with special needs. In this project, you will learn about different types of disabilities while working with young people to help them focus their abilities in a recreational setting.
     
    Shabbat Shalom, HEY!
    Saturdays 10am-1pm, 12noon-2pm (only one time frame required)
    Join our Director of Jewish Arts and Culture, Karina Zilberman, in intergenerational, meaningful, and dynamic Saturday morning Shabbat services.  Help Karina and staff spread the joys of Shabbat in assisting with services. You’ll have great time!
     
    Tutors for ESL Students
    Thursdays 4-6pm
    In this program, you will be sitting one-on-one with a student in an East Harlem church to help improve their reading and writing abilities. Many students in New York City are below the average reading levels for their age group. You will assist them with reading out loud. After he/she has completed a book, you will teach them how to write a book report using a computer. They won’t be the only ones who are happy to see improvements! Must be a junior or senior in high school.
