Pool Rules
At the May Center swimming pool, strict adherence to the following rules and etiquette is required for your safety and enjoyment. Individuals who do not obey pool rules will be asked to leave the facility and could face further disciplinary actions.
All participants must shower before entering the pool
Swim caps are to be worn by all swimmers
During lap swim only circle swimming allowed
Street shoes are not permitted on pool deck
Stationary exercise permitted during designated times only
Foul and abusive language not permitted
Proper bathing attire required
No standing in lap swimming lanes
No running in pool area
No food or drinks allowed
Stop swimming when whistle is blown, look for lifeguard and listen for instructions
Flotation devices not supplied by the Y are not permitted
Kick boards and pull buoys permitted during lap swim only
Flippers, fins, masks, snorkels are permitted at the discretion of the lifeguards
Jumping and diving permitted under lifeguard supervision
Pushing, kicking and other contact between swimmers not tolerated
An adult must accompany children under age 7
No splashing allowed
Swimmers under 18 must swim one length of pool unassisted or be accompanied by an adult
Infants must wear swim diapers; disposable diapers not permitted
Weekly family swim is exclusive for families only; at these times limited lap swimming is available for children who wish to swim laps
Parents are welcome to stay for the first and last 3-5 minutes of each class (with exception of infant-parent classes)
