Musical Introduction Series

The Musical Introduction Series for students in grades K-3 places teaching artists in over 20 public schools for twelve in-class sessions that introduce students to the fundamentals of music. Children throughout the city learn basic musical concepts like melody, rhythm and dynamics; develop listening skills critical not only to music appreciation but to success in the classroom; create and perform their own work and attend interactive, age appropriate concerts by artists of international reputation at 92nd Street Y's Kaufmann Concert Hall. Each concert is preceded by professional development workshops for public school teachers with our teaching artists and members of the group that is performing. Teachers are provided with curriculum materials that introduce musical concepts, vocabulary lists and activities that support the work of the teaching artists and that prepare students to attend concerts at 92Y.
