For Families: FAMILY CONCERT:
THE QUEST FOR SOUND — A BASH THE TRASH MUSICAL STORY
Ages: 3-6 yrs
JOHN BERTLES makes music with what some people call trash — or at least recycling. He also shows kids how to do the same, and in the process — which is radically fun — he manages to sneak in some basics about music, sound, etc. In this concert, everyday items become enchanted objects and simple noises become magical invocations as Bash the Trash's humorous and imaginative tale unfolds. Only through the building of strange and unusual instruments by the audience can the Quest for the Sound be resolved! This is the final installment this season of the Y's brand-new concert series for its youngest audiences (ages 3-6), featuring renowned educator, performer, composer and instrument-maker John Bertles and his group Bash the Trash. The group got its start in 1991 and has since educated thousands of children (while they thought they were just having fun!).

| ABOUT THE 92nd STREET Y'S PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES |
 |
From classes for parents-to-be to extensive activities for teens, the 92nd Street Y provides a supportive, noncompetitive environment that allows children and parents to reach their full potential. The groundbreaking Parenting Center, created in 1978 to help new and expectant parents navigate their new roles, has evolved to reflect the needs of today's working mothers, stay-at-home fathers, grandparents and other "non-traditional" caregivers. The Special Needs Program, created in 1983, recognizes the unique needs of this population, while the new Teen Program gives young people a place to share and learn. Established in 1954, the Camp Program offers 12 programs that range from traditional camps to specialty offerings to programs developed for teens; every summer 1,500 children ages 3 to 15 enjoy these programs in the bucolic setting of the Y's Rockland County campgrounds just outside New York City. Finally, throughout the year, activities for children of all ages introduce them to the excitement of science, the inspiration of the arts, and the fun of exercise. To make sure that children and adults of all are able to participate in these programs regardless of economic circumstance, the 92nd Street Y provides $1 million in financial assistance each year.
