Director of the 92nd Street Y's 60+ Program since 1996, Jo Frances Brown develops and implements the daytime, weekday activities for senior adults ages 60-100+. The diverse program serves over 600 men and women interested in the arts and humanities, movement and exercise, companionship and support, computer training, intergenerational programs, and exploring New York and its environs through tours of all kinds. Before coming to the Y, Ms. Brown was the director of the continuing day treatment program for the New York Service Program for Older People, which runs a structured day program for chronically mentally ill seniors. She has also worked as a social worker at the long-term care facilities of The Jewish Guild for the Blind and the Menorah Nursing Home. From 1997 to 2000, she chaired the East Side Council on the Aging (ESCOTA), and she is an active member of the New York City Chapter of the Association of Social Workers. She serves on the advisory boards of Mt. Sinai's Family Friends program, a national intergenerational initiative; the Hebrew Union College Museum, and the Florence Nightingale Center. Ms. Brown earned an M.S.W. from the Columbia University School of Social Work and a post-Master's certificate in aging from Brookdale Center on Aging at the Hunter College School of Social Work. In appreciation of her dedication to serving older adults, Ms. Brown was awarded the Y's Employee of the Year Award for excellence and professionalism after only one year on the job. She lives in New York with her husband. |
