| Several observances have been added to the Jewish calendar to commemorate and celebrate various events of significance relating to the Holocaust and the modern State of Israel. These observances all take place between the major festivals of Passover and Shavuot. These days, listed below, are inextricably linked and work to enhance the meaning of one another. |

Yom Yerushalayim commemorates the reunification of the city of Jerusalem in Israeli hands. On June 7, 1967, during the Six Day War, Israeli troops crashed through the defenses set up by Arab troops and recaptured parts of the holy city of Jerusalem, which had previously been in Arab possession. |
