| At the end of a piano concert at the 92nd Street Y, it's not unusual to catch a world-renowned pianist crawling under the Steinway to take a rubbing of its serial number. The instrument sounds that good. |
| The new piano is the result of a groundbreaking philanthropic partnership between the Peter Jay Sharp Foundation and the 92nd Street Y. Masters of the Keyboard series performers Jonathan Biss and Benjamin Hochman helped 92nd Street Y Tisch Center for the Arts Director Hanna Arie-Gaifman select a pianist's piano—one worthy of the ten concerts and the Masters of the Keyboard series funded by the grant. |
| The grant however, does more than provide an opportunity for virtuoso pianists at the peak of their careers to perform to audiences. In designing the piano program, The Peter Jay Sharp Foundation draws upon the institutional muscle of the Y, with programming not only for virtuoso performances, but also for all the work that those performances inspire—student education, outreach and advanced piano training for faculty at the School of the Arts. |
