FALL SEASON PREVIEW: HEALTH AND WELLNESS LECTURES
New York, NY, August, 8, 2007—The 92nd Street Y May Center for Health, Fitness and Sport attracts the top medical and health experts to speak about a diverse array of issues, from heart health to cosmetic surgery, from food allergies to skeletal fitness. This fall, the Y offers a season packed with bestselling authors, leading physicians, alternative medicine experts and speakers who address special topics like breast health and diabetes.

Thu, Oct 11, 8:15pm, $15 — The South Beach Strategy for Living Without Heart Disease
Cardiologist Dr. Arthur Agatston is the creator of the revolutionary South Beach Diet. In this lecture, he reveals how simple, non-invasive scans can identify seemingly healthy individuals who might suffer heart attacks and why people with normal cholesterol levels may actually face high risks.

Arthur Agatston, MD is a preventive cardiologist and an associate professor of medicine at the University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine. He is the author of The South Beach Diet and The South Beach Heart Program.

A panel of experts led by Celiac Disease specialist Dr. Peter H.R. Green takes an in-depth look at the complicated issues surrounding the diagnosis, treatment and day-to-day management of food intolerances. The panel examines the challenges in obtaining correct diagnoses and current adult and pediatric guidelines for testing, also offering nutrition strategies for finding enjoyable food alternatives when shopping, cooking and eating out.

Peter H.R. Green, MD, is the director of the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University and the author of Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic. Amy DeFelice, MD, is an assistant professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, the director of the Pediatric Nutrition Support Service Program and the program director of the Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Fellowship Program at the Children's Hospital. Anne Lee, MSEd, RD, CDN, is the nutritionist for the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University and the nutrition advisor for the Westchester Celiac Sprue Support Group. Experts include Dr. Stephen Josephson, Dr. Lawrence Bruce Cohen and Dr. Jane Martin.

Lecture topics and speakers include "Boomer Sex" with Dr. Laura Corio and Dr. Philip Luloff, "A New Paradigm for Healthy Living" with NBC's Chief Medical Editor Dr. Nancy Snyderman, and "Vital Forever: Hurdling the Hormone Gap" with Dr. Fred Pescatore. Tue, May 6, 8:15pm — What You Need to Know About Osteoporosis: NBC's Today contributor, bestselling author and New York City Ballet nutritionist Joy Bauer is joined by Mirabai Holland to provide the latest information on treatments, diagnostic tools and future therapies in the fight against osteoporosis.

Endowed by Leni & Peter May, the 92nd Street Y May Center for Health, Fitness & Sport offers a wide range of innovative exercise and wellness programs for adults, teens and children. More than a state-of-the-art "gym," the Center is a true health and wellness facility serving a culturally diverse population of all ages.
