Helpful Information & Suggestions As You Pack
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE PACK LIGHTLY!!! You will be responsible for carrying your own luggage the entire month of Havaya along with some communal gear we will ask you to be in charge of along the way. We highly suggest using a hiking backpack to carry your belongings so you have free hands to help out! Also note that all luggage must be 50 pounds or under. According to airline regulations you will be charged an extra $25-155 for luggage over the 50-pound limit. Remember that you will also be purchasing souvenirs during your travels to add to your luggage weight.
We cannot emphasize enough the importance of marking every item and article of clothing you pack with your name in permanent marker, on the tag or other visible area, so we know that they are yours!
A recommended place to shop for your camping supplies is EMS (Eastern Mountain Sports). They have an easy-to-use website that you can access at: www.ems.com. You can either purchase items online or find the store closest to your home. (It is strongly recommend that if you are purchasing hiking books, you buy them 'in person' rather than online.)
The clothes you pack should be lightweight and easily laundered. You will not have the opportunity to iron; so don't pack clothes that easily wrinkle.
Jewelry: We strongly suggest that you do not wear/pack any jewelry, clothes, etc. that are valuable or sentimental.
