Camps Scholarship

When I was a young boy growing up in New York, I attended a Queens Y where my only exposure to the outdoors was a concrete playground. I yearned for something more, but that was the only summer program my parents could afford. Now I have a five-year-old child of my own, and I want to express my deep gratitude to the 92nd Street Y for enabling her to have the kind of camp experience I never did.

Ensuring that everyone can participate in our programs regardless of their economic situation has always been a priority for the 92nd Street Y and is especially important in this economic climate. Because of the generosity of individuals who fund our scholarships we are able to award over $1M in support each year. Scholarships are available throughout the Y and the largest portion goes to campers who take part in our 11 summer camps.

Each 92nd Street Y camp provides a nurturing environment for children aged 3 to 18. While all camps emphasize strong values, culture and community, they range from day to sleep-away camps; specialty camps such as basketball, soccer, and science camps; and two camps for children with developmental disabilities. We're also thrilled to announce that the Y has been selected to create a brand new NYC residential camping experience. The new camp, Passport New York, will begin in summer 2010 and give campers aged 11-16 from all over North America the chance to make their home at the 92nd Street Y for three weeks.
