Beth Teitelman
Director, Scholarship Services

In the spring of 2002, Beth Teitelman became the 92nd Street Y's first director of scholarship services. The position was created to manage the Y's vast scholarship program, which awards $1.5 million to children and adults every year. Ms. Teitelman was chosen to direct the program because of the intelligence, sensitivity and leadership abilities she demonstrated during her 15 years as director of the Y's legendary Parenting Center. In her new role, Ms. Teitelman serves as the liaison between scholarship candidates and the Y's various programs for adults and children including arts and humanities classes; health and fitness programs; parenting and family workshops and summer camps, and much more.
The 92nd Street Y's scholarship fund was expanded to $1.5 million from $1 million in the fall of 2002 to aid those affected by the September 11th tragedy. Through the fund, the Y reinforces its commitment to serving the community, providing financial assistance to anyone who needs it. One of Ms. Teitelman's objectives is to continue to increase the Y's scholarship endowment.
Ms. Teitelman is a familiar, trusted face at the Y. For over 15 years she served as director of the 92nd Street Y Parenting Center, becoming the person hundreds of parents, caregivers and educators turned to for advice and support. Under her leadership, the 20-year-old Center became a true foundation for over 2,000 families in the community, serving as an extended family for many whose relatives are not close by. Ms. Teitelman is an expert in child development issues who received her M.A. in education from New York University and did post-graduate work at Bank Street College of Education. She is co-author of Wonderplay, an interactive and developmental book of creative activities for infants, toddlers and preschoolers, and has been frequently quoted in Parents Magazine. When not at the 92nd Street Y, Ms. Teitelman enjoys spending time with her own family and taking advantage of all New York has to offer.
