| The Y Archives includes administrative records, personal papers, printed materials, photographs, audio and video recordings, and artifacts and memorabilia. As a result of the Y's long-standing practice of retaining the documentation of its activities, it is possible for both outside researchers and Y staff to explore in depth the evolution of hundreds of program initiatives that have taken place at the Y and its affiliated organizations since 1874. |

The 92nd Street Y Archives was established in 1980 with the support of grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the National Historical Publications and Records Commission. The Y was the beneficiary of a NEH grant from 2003 to 2005 to process significant archival collections and create public access through online finding aids. With the support of a grant from Save America's Treasures, the Y embarked in 2005 on a two-year project to preserve through digitization, and provide public access to, the historic literary recordings of the Unterberg Poetry Center.
