How many of you can remember saying "I wanna be a __________ when I grow up"?
The truth is many children decide what they want to they want to do professionally way before they have any clue what it means to work in that profession. Many teens have held on to those childhood dreams of being a doctor or a police officer, a firefighter or and attorney, and so on. Our goal is to show these students what it's really like to work in these environments.
High school students will be exposed to careers that they may (or may not) be interested in for the future. The program will give these students an opportunity to learn from young adults (between the age of 25 and 30) what it is like to work in a professional environment. The hope is that the students will hear personal experiences that will influence and inspire them to not only choose a field to study when they go to college, but to have made that decision with a first-hand account of the profession.
The following are the Career Institute programs taking place from February to May:
Advertising and Sales @ WebMD
Fashion @ Derek Lam
Film @ The Weinstein Company
Finance at Goldman Sachs
Publishing @ Simon & Schuster
Social Work @ the Children's Aid Society
