How long is the swim season?
There are two swim seasons each year as defined by united states swimming. The short course season, swum in yards is from September-May. The long course season, which is swum in meters is from June-August. When you register for the swim team at the Y the fee covers the period from September-June. There is an optional summer swim team for a nominal fee.
What is the cost for the swim team?
From September-June the fees are as follows:
Red Squad $1900
White Squad $1900
Dolphin Squad $1850
Blue Squad $1850

How often do swimmers compete in meets?
Meets are about once a month and are usually held on weekends over two days. Both days are expected.
How far does the swim team travel to swim meets?
This year the team will attend meets on Manhattan Island, Long Island, The Bronx and one meet at West Point Academy.
When are tryouts?
Tryouts for the Flying Dolphins 2007-2008 Swimming Season will be held August 28 & 29 and September 4-7. Please arrive promptly at 4pm.
Who can try out?
Anyone is welcome to tryout for the Flying Dolphins Swim Team. Acceptance onto the team is based on space, swimming ability and age.
What if I have other commitments and cannot come every day?
You do not have to be here everyday, but there are minimums for each group. We encourage young children to participate in activities other than swimming.
Is it ok to arrive late to practice due to an extended school day?
Students First, Athletes Second. That said, please remember that our actual pool time is limited and we should make every effort to take advantage of it.
Are there refunds?
Swim Team fees are non-refundable. There is a tryout period during which you may attend practice before you make a commitment.
Are swim team members allowed to use the facility during non-swim team practice times?
Yes. As members of the swim team, your children receive a youth May Center Membership which entitles them to use of the May Center during youth times. Check with the Membership department for a schedule.
Is there any financial aid?
There are a limited number of need-based scholarships awarded to families each year. Please submit your applications early for consideration. You will not be considered for a scholarship if your account is in arrears. No one is guaranteed a scholarship regardless of past awards. |
