Miori Sugiyama

Piano

A graduate of the Juilliard School, pianist Miori Sugiyama has been an active soloist and chamber musician in the US and abroad. Recent highlights include solo debut recitals at Carnegie Weill Recital Hall, Merkin Concert Hall and Bargemusic, performances in Spain as well as appearances on Aspen Public Radio. She has been a recipient of the New York Debut Recital award as well as Alumni Special Presentations Award with Artists International, which have led to various recital opportunities. Last season, she was invited to perform at Merkin Concert Hall by An Die Musik as a guest artist. She has attended prestigious music festivals including the Perlman Music Program and Aspen Music Festival and School, where she was a recipient of the New Horizon Fellowship. This past summer, she returned to the festival as teaching assistant to Rita Sloan and has been invited back again for the upcoming season. She enjoys exploring new music and has recorded piano works of Matthew Kajcienski, which will be released later this season. She recently earned Doctor of Musical Arts degree from University of Maryland-College Park and holds additional degrees from Teachers College-Columbia University and Queens College. Her teachers have included Morey Ritt, Julian Martin, Paul Rutman and Rita Sloan. Recently praised as 'excellent' by The New York Times, she is a member of the critically acclaimed Brooklyn Art Song Society in addition to founding her own music series, Half Moon Concert Series. She serves as staff pianist for the vocal department at Aaron Copland School of Music (Queens College), where she also coaches chamber music.
