Ingrid Gordon is a versatile percussionist based in New York City, whose range extends from classical music to West African drumming.

Ingrid has performed as a soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and in chamber music recitals across the United States. She is founder and artistic director of the innovative ensemble Percussia, which is known for its eclectic and unique repertoire that incorporates world music influences and instruments into the contemporary classical idiom, and its championing of young composers and new works. Ingrid has also performed and recorded with a number of other cutting-edge ensembles in New York, including the Azure Ensemble, the Graham Ashton Brass Ensemble, the Exponential Ensemble and Ljova’s Contraband, and has played in several Broadway shows.

Ingrid has performed at New York’s major venues, including Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, Symphony Space and Lincoln Center. She has performed with the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players, the Hudson Valley Philharmonic and the Albany Symphony, and has appeared at the Spoleto USA Festival. Additionally, Ingrid has devoted herself to the study of many musical traditions from around the globe. She founded the traditional Mexican marimba ensemble Marimba Nueva York, and is one of the few people to perform Jewish klezmer music on the xylophone.

Ingrid is passionate about sharing her musical expertise to New York City’s school children. She has worked as a teaching artist for some of New York’s major cultural institutions, including 92Y, Carnegie Hall, BAM, Young Artists NY and Orchestra of St. Luke’s. In this capacity Ingrid teaches everything from musical composition to Orff xylophone, to music and culture of Africa.

Ingrid holds a DMA from the University of Illinois, an MM from Northwestern University and a BM from the Eastman School of Music, where she was awarded the prestigious performer's certificate. She has recorded for the Centaur, Signum, New World Records and Col Legno labels.
