David Atkin was born in Toronto Canada. Today he lives and works in Brooklyn. David earned his BFA in painting at the Nova Scotia College of Art And Design, and his MFA in painting from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He also studied at the Cooper Union, Parson’s School of Design and the Ontario College of Art. David has been teaching at 92nd Street Y since 2005 as well as teaching at the Nova Scotia College of art and Design, and the Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, Massachusetts. His work approach involves a firm grasp of realism in a contemporary context. David encourages his students to attain a mastery of the painting techniques their intuitive energy.
