"These are my favorite cookies that my grandmother used to make. She'd put them in a cookie tin lined with wax paper and we couldn't keep our hands out of there!" Judy Gold
  • Pinch of salt
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 lb. butter or margarine (butter is better)
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp. sour cream

Mix dry ingredients together. Cut in butter. Add eggs and sour cream. Mix until smooth (this requires squishing with your hands). Roll into 4 balls and sprinkle them with flour. Refrigerate at least 2 hours or overnight.

Roll out on well-floured board using floured rolling pin. Use a glass to cut into cookies about 1/8 inch thick—not too thin!

Bake in a 350°F oven for about 12 minutes. Check cookies after 10 minutes in the oven—total cooking time depends on how thick the cookies are. If the dough sticks, sprinkle it with more flour.
