Brief Bio

Caryn James, a film and culture critic, is writer and owner of the “James on screenS” film and television blog for Indiewire and a contributor to The New York Times Book Review and other publications. Previously, she was film critic, chief television critic, and critic at large for The New York Times. She is the author of the novels What Caroline Knew and Glorie.

Showtime, the cable channel responsible for some of the sharpest, smartest series on television joins with 92Y in offering a behind-the-scenes look at its hit shows in a series of conversations at 92Y with critic Caryn James. Jeremy Irons, star of The Borgias, Edie Falco and the producers/creators of Nurse Jackie and Laura Linney and the cast of The Big C will talk about their creative process and share clips from the new season.

The Big C stars Laura Linney in her Golden Globe-winning and Emmy-nominated role as Cathy Jamison, a reserved, Minneapolis wife/mother/teacher whose cancer diagnosis forces her to shake up her life and find hope, humor and the light side of a dark situation in Showtime’s comedy The Big C.

The series also stars Oliver Platt, John Benjamin Hickey, Gabriel Basso and Gabourey Sidibe. Guest stars this season include Academy Award-winning actress Susan Sarandon and Emmy nominated actor Victor Garber. The Big C is created and written by Darlene Hunt, who serves as executive producer, along with showrunner Jenny Bicks, Laura Linney, Neal H. Moritz and Vivian Cannon. It is produced by Sony Pictures Television. The Big C returns to Showtime for a third season on Apr 8 at 9:30 pm ET/PT.

Who is eligible for priority registration?

Individuals who have participated in 92nd Street Y programs over the past year in selected program areas, participants in certain memberships, and those who have made contributions of $500 or more to 92Y, are eligible to register for programs before they become available to the general public.

How do I know if I qualify?

Patrons that qualify for Priority Registration will receive packets in the mail explaining how to purchase online. Priority registration is normally mailed 2-3 weeks before a catalog is available. Registration information includes your Patron ID#. You can use this ID# to setup your login information online. This will allow you to register early for a course or event. Please note: if you receive a packet, you are only eligible to priority register for the programs covered in your packet.
