After the Arab Spring—The Military Challenges Facing Israel

A Conversation with Yaakov Katz Interviewed by Warren Kozak

The Arab Spring of 2011 altered the political environment for many nations in the Middle East.

While tolerant, liberal regimes may emerge, ready for genuine coexistence with Israel, many questions have to be asked. What is to become of peace agreements that enabled reduction or redeployment of military forces? What do the dramatic upheavals mean for Israel and its vital need for defensible borders? Geography hasn't changed; Israel remains a small country, only nine miles wide at its narrow neck. What do the Arab revolutions mean for the Israel Defense Forces' ability to protect the Jewish state?

Yaakov Katz is the military correspondent and defense analyst for The Jerusalem Post, Israel’s leading English daily. Mr. Katz spent January 2009 with the IDF along Israel’s border with the Gaza Strip, leading the paper’s coverage of Israel’s war against Hamas.

Warren Kozak has worked as a writer for some of television’s most prestigious network anchors. His work has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and The New York Sun, as well as other newspapers and magazines.

This event is co-presented with CAMERA (Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America)
