Carol Grocki Lewis studied ceramics at Buffalo State College while earning a Bachelor of Science in Art Education. She furthered her study of ceramics at 92Y with Polly Ann Martin, Frank Martin and various visiting ceramic artists. Grocki Lewis taught ceramics at Marymount Manhattan College and has been teaching ceramics and art at 92nd Street YM-YWHA since 1995 and at Earthworks Pottery in New York City. Before coming to NYC in 1980 she taught art in the public schools in Rochester NY.
While working from 1982-1992 as a registrar and collections manager for various private art collectors she earned a Master of Arts degree from New York University in the Gallatin Division, an independent study program. She focused on Museum Studies and Art History. Graduate thesis: Caring For Cultural Property: A Guide for the Private Art Collector. (1992)
Carol has been teaching through the Educational Outreach Program at the 92Y at River East, a K-5 school in Harlem. Using clay, glazes and the kiln at the school the students have had an opportunity to express their creative ideas in a new medium.
