Gina Leishman

Composer and multi-instrumentalist Gina Leishman was born in England, studied music at the Vienna Conservatory and Edinburgh University, and has made her home in New York since 1994. Trained as a pianist, she also plays alto and baritone saxophone, bass clarinet, piccolo, accordion and ukulele. She has written for theater, opera, dance, film, TV and concert stage, garnering numerous awards. Co-leader of Kamikaze Ground Crew, an instrumental septet, and Mr. Wau-Wa, dedicated to the songs of Bertolt Brecht, as well as leader of her own quartet, her recordings can be found on New World Records, Koch Jazz, Busmeat and GCQ Records. Ms. Leishman has taught in the 92nd Street Y's Musical Introduction Series program since 2008 and has taught at LIU/Brooklyn, NYU, Fordham at Lincoln Center, Tada (NYC), University of Iowa and San Francisco State University.
