92Y Guitar Fest! The Art of Collaboration

Join Benjamin Verdery, Artistic Director of the 92Y Guitar Institute and of the Yale School of Music, along with Sheryl Bailey, Chris Bergson, Greg Gumpel, Olivia McClendon AKA Billy Dean, Simon Powis, Gene Pritsker and more!

11:30–12 pm: Registration

Master Class: Mr. Verdery will work with two students discussing various aspects of classical guitar technique, interpretation and posture. – with Ben Verdery
Rhyming and Vibing: Explore cross genre collaborations of music and create mini songs as a group. – with Billy Dean

Liberation of Improvisation: Learn how to compose your own improvisational ideas – with Gene Pritsker
Rollin' and Tumblin': An in-depth look at the guitar styles of such blues masters as B.B. King, Albert King, Freddie King, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn. – with Chris Bergson and Greg Gumpel 
Ensemble Technique: A workshop on playing in time, on cue and in musical synchronization as a group – with Simon Powis

Blues with a Feeling!: Focusing on how musicians play based upon feelings and emotion rather than what is written on paper with Greg Gumpel
Woke Up This Morning: A contemporary blues/roots rock/soul songwriting workshop examining techniques for writing and refining your own songs. – with Chris Bergson and Greg Gumpel 
I Concentrate On You: Exploring the art of accompanying vocalists on the guitar in jazz, blues, soul and rock. – with Chris Bergson
In Search of the Missing Chord: How to find that sound you're looking for. – with Sheryl Bailey

Get to the front of the line!

Priority registration puts you at the front of the line to register for courses and events for an upcoming semester.

Eligible patrons will be able to order priority registration online.

 

Who is eligible for priority registration?

Individuals who have participated in 92nd Street Y programs over the past year in selected program areas, participants in certain memberships, and those who have made contributions of $500 or more to 92Y, are eligible to register for programs before they become available to the general public.

How do I know if I qualify?

Patrons that qualify for Priority Registration will receive packets in the mail explaining how to purchase online. Priority registration is normally mailed 2-3 weeks before a catalog is available. Registration information includes your Patron ID#. You can use this ID# to setup your login information online. This will allow you to register early for a course or event. Please note: if you receive a packet, you are only eligible to priority register for the programs covered in your packet.
