92Y Guitar Fest! Classes and workshops in rock, funk jazz and classical

Join Benjamin Verdery, Artistic Director of the 92Y Guitar Institute and of the Yale School of Music, along with Chris Bergson, Ann Klein, Mark Martin, Grady Owens and Ian O’Sullivan.

11:30 am–12 pm: Registration

Workshops include:

Who Knew?: Ben Verdery and virtuoso mixed vocal artist Mark Martin discuss how they make classical guitar and beat boxing work together – with Ben Verdery and Mark Martin
Supporting the Song: Sometimes getting a gig doesn’t depend on how technically proficient you are as a guitar player. Getting the gig is often a matter of a few key elements, which is what we will focus on in this workshop – with Ann Klein
Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar: A workshop covering origins, style, tunings, turnaround examples, and improvisation, learn about this unique guitar style adapted by Hawaiian guitarists after the instruments’ introduction to the islands in the 1830’s. – with Ian O’Sullivan
Air Signs: Work to invent air signs, choral stories, and other songs. This workshop takes place in four stages: singing, writing, instrument vehicles, reflection and performance. Please bring a notebook and a felt tip pen. – with Grady Owens
Rollin’ and Tumblin’: Explore Blues Guitar techniques from Robert Johnson to Derek Trucks in this workshop – with Chris Bergson
The Mystery of Songwriting: Have you written poems or lyrics but not yet set them to music? Have you improvised or composed music but not yet set lyrics to your tunes? This workshop will give you the tools to write songs! – with Ann Klein
Master Class - with Ben Verdery: Mr. Verdery will work with two students discussing various aspects of classical guitar technique, interpretation and posture.

Get to the front of the line!

Priority registration puts you at the front of the line to register for courses and events for an upcoming semester.

Eligible patrons will be able to order priority registration online.

 

Who is eligible for priority registration?

Individuals who have participated in 92nd Street Y programs over the past year in selected program areas, participants in certain memberships, and those who have made contributions of $500 or more to 92Y, are eligible to register for programs before they become available to the general public.

How do I know if I qualify?

Patrons that qualify for Priority Registration will receive packets in the mail explaining how to purchase online. Priority registration is normally mailed 2-3 weeks before a catalog is available. Registration information includes your Patron ID#. You can use this ID# to setup your login information online. This will allow you to register early for a course or event. Please note: if you receive a packet, you are only eligible to priority register for the programs covered in your packet.
