Play in the mud this fall and discover the joy of working with your hands!

Beginner classes introduce fundamental handbuilding techniques, including pinch, coil and slab construction and wheel throwing to make bowls, vases, cups, plates and other vessel forms.

Intermediate/Advanced classes assist you in developing personal work. Use of slips, glazes and surface decoration are covered at all levels.

All levels cover use of slips, glazes and surface decoration.


Prerequisite: Two semesters of Handbuilding and Wheel Beginners.

    Sarah Emond has a M.A. New York University in sculpture. Emond works professionally as both a sculptor and functional ceramist. She works primarily on individual commissions and designing unique ceramic pieces for culinary photo shoots. Her work is held in private collections in the U.S and in Germany. Emond lives and works in New York City. Sarah has taught at Crafts Students League, Jewish Community Center, City College and Hunter College. She teaches corporate classes and private lessons at 92Y.

    Patrice Renee Washington was born in Chicago, Illinois and received her BFA from Metropolitan State University of Denver and MFA in Visual Arts from Columbia University in 2014. Through a multidisciplinary practice her work explores domesticity, humor and cultural production. She has exhibited nationally, including MoCADA, Center for Visual Art Denver and Blackburn 20|20.

Eligible patrons will be able to order priority registration online.


Who is eligible for priority registration?

Individuals who have participated in 92nd Street Y programs over the past year in selected program areas, participants in certain memberships, and those who have made contributions of $500 or more to 92Y, are eligible to register for programs before they become available to the general public.

How do I know if I qualify?

Patrons that qualify for Priority Registration will receive packets in the mail explaining how to purchase online. Priority registration is normally mailed 2-3 weeks before a catalog is available. Registration information includes your Patron ID#. You can use this ID# to setup your login information online. This will allow you to register early for a course or event. Please note: if you receive a packet, you are only eligible to priority register for the programs covered in your packet.
