Ballet Basics is a structured beginning-level classical ballet class that introduces fundamental ballet movement vocabulary, barre work, center and traveling steps in a nurturing and creative environment with live musical accompaniment.

Susan Rosenbaum, a New York native, received her early training at the New Dance Group Studio and at Harkness House in NYC. She studied with David Howard, Finis Jhung, Kira Guzikova, Wilhelm Burmann and Sydelle Gomberg. She earned her BFA in dance from the University of Utah, her MA in Early Childhood Education from Adelphi University and is also Montessori certified. She performed with Ballet West, Harkness Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, American Ballet Theater, and NYC Character and Ballet Company. In addition to teaching both children and adult levels at the 92nd Street Y Harkness Dance Center, Susan has also taught at the Peninsula Hotel Fitness Center and in the “Take a Chance” series at the JCC Manhattan. Susan’s teaching credits also include Central Park Dance in Scarsdale, NY, Steps on Broadway, Rutgers University, Maryland Ballet, Chautauqua Institution and Tanzwerkstatt, Bonn, Germany.

Susan Giovanoni is a dancer, choreographer and educator. As a dancer she has studied ballet, jazz, modern, tap, hip hop, improvisation, and East and West African dance. She received her BA degree from Wheaton College (MA), with a major in English, and a minor in Theater and Dance Studies. She then moved to New York to pursue dance and dance education. She received her Master of Arts degree from New York University in 2011, becoming a New York State certified Teacher of Dance. She has taught in various settings including preschool programs, public schools, private studios, community centers, summer camps, and after-school and outreach programs. Currently she teaches Creative Ballet and Ballet Basics at the Harkness Dance Center at 92Y.

Eligible patrons will be able to order priority registration online.
Who is eligible for priority registration?
Individuals who have participated in 92nd Street Y programs over the past year in selected program areas, participants in certain memberships, and those who have made contributions of $500 or more to 92Y, are eligible to register for programs before they become available to the general public.
How do I know if I qualify?
Patrons that qualify for Priority Registration will receive packets in the mail explaining how to purchase online. Priority registration is normally mailed 2-3 weeks before a catalog is available. Registration information includes your Patron ID#. You can use this ID# to setup your login information online. This will allow you to register early for a course or event. Please note: if you receive a packet, you are only eligible to priority register for the programs covered in your packet.
