Join the Consulate General of Canada in New York and 92YTribeca as we launch the newest book from distinguished music critic Alan Light, celebrate Canadian legend Leonard Cohen, pay tribute to the late American singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley and hail one of the most-performed rock songs in history—Cohen's canonical "Hallelujah."
The Holy or the Broken: Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley, and the unlikely Ascent of "Hallelujah", Light's revelatory new book, shines the spotlight on Cohen's evocative, ambiguous "hymn" and its rise from label reject to luminous contemporary standard, highlighting the role that Buckley's haunting 1994 cover played in the song's ascent.
In addition to launching The Holy or the Broken with a reading, interview and audience Q&A with Light, three completely unique live presentations of "Hallelujah" will be performed by Michael Leonhart (Steely Dan, Michael Leonhart & The Avramina 7, Donald Fagen), Peter Kiesewalter (East Village Opera Company, Brooklyn Rundfunk Orkestrata), Greg Naughton (The Sweet Remains) and the remarkable "Hallelujah" House Band. Eligible patrons will be able to order priority registration online.
Who is eligible for priority registration?
Individuals who have participated in 92nd Street Y programs over the past year in selected program areas, participants in certain memberships, and those who have made contributions of $500 or more to 92Y, are eligible to register for programs before they become available to the general public.
How do I know if I qualify?
Patrons that qualify for Priority Registration will receive packets in the mail explaining how to purchase online. Priority registration is normally mailed 2-3 weeks before a catalog is available. Registration information includes your Patron ID#. You can use this ID# to setup your login information online. This will allow you to register early for a course or event. Please note: if you receive a packet, you are only eligible to priority register for the programs covered in your packet.
