Madison Avenue’s Rock Hunter (Tony Randall) sounds very VIP on paper, but in truth this Mad Man is an agreeably nebbish anti-alpha who’s out of ideas and about to lose the all-important Stay-Put Lipstick account.
Enter Rita Marlowe (Jayne Mansfield), an oh-so-kissable Hollywood starlet who’s currently scheming ways to make her unfaithful he-man boyfriend feel insanely jealous. Cue the meet-cute. Radically rewriting George Axelrod’s original play—a blue-humored Broadway sex comedy that mercilessly skewered Hollywood’s Hays Code—writer-director Frank Tashlin tones down the sex, turns up the Technicolor and trains the satire on television, tabloid journalism and screaming teenage fan culture. The result is a riot of primary hues, cartoonish caricatures, surprise cameos, pop-culture references, and direct-to-camera dialogues with the audience. Dismissed in its day (“Not always in the best of taste,” tsk-tsk’ed New York Times reviewer Bosley Crowther), Tashlin’s proto-PoMo aesthetic was a major influence on the French New Wave and vintage-60s Godard in particular.

Who is eligible for priority registration?
Individuals who have participated in 92nd Street Y programs over the past year in selected program areas, participants in certain memberships, and those who have made contributions of $500 or more to 92Y, are eligible to register for programs before they become available to the general public.
How do I know if I qualify?
Patrons that qualify for Priority Registration will receive packets in the mail explaining how to purchase online. Priority registration is normally mailed 2-3 weeks before a catalog is available. Registration information includes your Patron ID#. You can use this ID# to setup your login information online. This will allow you to register early for a course or event. Please note: if you receive a packet, you are only eligible to priority register for the programs covered in your packet.
