Curated by Jackson in conjunction with 92YTribeca, The Checkout Live will convene some of the most exciting and innovative players on the NYC scene for monthly concerts that will be recorded for future broadcast and podcast. Join us for the city’s hottest new jazz showcase, a living and breathing celebration of the present and future of the music.

Tenor Saxophonist Donny McCaslin began turning heads with his solo work in larger ensembles – first with Ken Schaphorst’s big band, and subsequently with the acclaimed Maria Schneider Orchestra, where his performance on the album Concert In The Garden garnered McCaslin a Grammy nomination for “Best Jazz Instrumental Solo” in 2004. In 2005, McCaslin joined the quintet led by the widely lionized trumpeter Dave Douglas. Reviewing the Douglas Quintet in Jazz Times, Josef Woodard wrote of McCaslin: “He’s a versatile player who moves easily between inside and outside musical zones… There’s a fluidity and grace to his playing even when he’s pushing at envelopes.” In 2008 and 2009, McCaslin won the Downbeat Critics poll for ‘Rising Star on the Tenor Saxophone.’ His 2008 release, Recommended Tools, on Greenleaf Music was in many critics’ top ten lists for jazz record of the year, and in 2009, McCaslin released Declaration on Sunnyside, which features a brass quartet.

"The man's a whiz--a guitarist who can wax provocative one moment, genteel the next. Rather than causing schisms, this approach breeds unique flow, turning Rogers' solos into emotional roadmaps" -Jim Macnie, Village Voice

"Adam Rogers specializes in a turbocharged, sleekly designed, ultimately armored brand of postbop. His compositions, with their harmonic and rhythmic feints, can suggest complex spring-loaded devices." -Nate Chinen, NY Times

Adam Rogers is the guitarist of choice for an array of the greatest names in jazz, rock and world music: Michael and Randy Brecker, Chris Potter, Cassandra Wilson, John Pattitucci, Walker Becker, John Zorn, and Norah Jones, just to name a few. He also co-led the critically acclaimed Lost Tribe, which released three albums. He has released 5 albums as a leader since 2002, with his most recent being Sight featuring John Pattitucci and Clarence Penn. Adam is the 2008 recipient of the prestigious North Sea Jazz Festival's Paul Acket Award. He performs at 92YTribeca with "his genre bending funk - rock - experimental trio - DICE" - featuring Fima Ephron on bass and Nate Smith on drums.
