An indie-spirited triple bill of up-and-coming artists featuring a little bit of everything... from rock to bluegrass to Americana to world music to folk.
New York-based band Swear & Shake's loyal fan base and earnest talent have driven them on tours across the US and into the focal point of fawning critics.Newsday praised the band, comparing them to indie darlings Mumford & Sons and Bon Iver and New York's The Deli described front lady Kari Spieler's pipes as "gorgeously full." Brooklyn Belles compared her to “a young June Carter Cash." The band features Kari Spieler (vocals, lyrics, guitar), Adam McHeffey (vocals, lyrics, guitar, banjo, piano), Shaun Savage (electric bass) and Tom Elefante (percussion). Attending a Swear & Shake show feels like a cozy, crowded room of old friends where a guitar is picked up as the last bottle is poured, and we're thrilled to bring them and their good-time energy to 92YTribeca.
Hailing from four corners of the globe and brought together by the downtown music scene in NYC, Tall Tall Trees formed in 2008 to realize the music of jazz bassist turned banjo-playing songwriter Mike Savino. The following year saw the release of a self-titled debut record on their own Good Neighbor Records. Recorded in the home studios of Savino, guitarist Kyle Sanna and percussionist Mathias Kunzli, the 12 tracks on Tall Tall Trees are eclectic, touching on surf rock, indie folk, sentimental balladry and afrobeat. The album met with critical success climbing the CMJ radio charts and receiving placements on MTV, History Channel, Animal Planet and Lifetime. The addition of bassist Benjamin Campbell filled out the performing line-up and the band began to tour in support of the record.
Starting off the night are Yale indie-folk darlings Plume Giant. As the New Haven Advocate notes, "They achieve more with their three voices, two violins, and guitar than most full-sized folk-rock bands." We're thrilled to have them on our mainstage for their 92YTribeca debut.
