Silver Apples, originally an American psychedelic electronic music duo from New York, were composed of Simeon Coxe III on a primitive synthesizer of his own devising and until his death in 2005, drummer Danny Taylor. They were active between ‘67 and ‘69, before reforming in the mid ‘90s. They were one of the first groups to employ electronic music techniques extensively within a rock idiom, and their minimalistic style, with its pulsing, driving beat and frequently discordant modality, anticipated not only the experimental electronic music and krautrock of the 1970s, but also underground dance music and indie rock of the ’90s. In Sept ‘07 Simeon toured for the first time in years with a solo version of the Apples. Since then, he’s performed at All Tomorrow's Parties, Electric Picnic, etc.
Friday marks the Live NYC Debut for Canadian-composer CFCF, who has already toured across Europe and the Americas in a variety of contexts - DJing with and for Toro Y Moi, Neon Indian and Caribou, playing The Museum Of Modern Art’s PS1 venue with Animal Collective and Oneohtrix Point Never, and performing full-on parties with Hercules and Love Affair and The Juan Maclean among many others. 92YTribeca has a grand piano. Going classy.
Win Win is XXXchange (founding Spank Rock member / producer), Chris Devlin (Spank Rock’s DJ) and Ghostdad, the video wizard. Breaking their own mold, the 3 have begun to step outside the DJ/party beats world and ... well they formed a straight up live psych-rock band with traditional instruments and dizzying visuals. On record, vocals came from Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip), Lizzie Bougatsos (Gang Gang Dance), Andrew W.K and others.
