Join Nation Beat and 92YTribeca for a night of Brazilian rhythms and sustainable agriculture!
Nation Beat's totally original 21st century fusion of thunderous Brazilian maracatu drumming and New Orleans second line rhythms, Appalachian-inspired bluegrass, funk, rock and country-blues has been called "nothing short of groundbreaking" by CMJ. The band's new album Growing Stone (Barbès Records) is a tribute to family farmers around the world and to celebrate its release founder Scott Kettner brings together his exceptional band with the incredible Brazilian percussion ensemble Maracatu NY and DJ Greg Caz for a party in our Mainstage that will raise the roof. The evening will include the world premier of a new Nation Beat video and a brief Q&A with the farmers featured in the video.
The night also marks the opening of Sustain a photography exhibition by Aliza Eliazarov in our gallery. There have been many responses to the broken farm system and current conventional farming practices in the US. One faction of this movement is comprised of college educated young people who are re-envisioning their relationship with land and food by embodying the principles of sustainability and demonstrating a better alternative to the existing system. Sustain is an ongoing investigation of the agrarian renaissance and sustainability movement taking place across America today.
$10 ($5 off CD with advance purchase). 6:30 pm gallery opening, 8 pm doors to Mainstage.
