Kevin Geeks Out is the comedy-variety show hosted by writer-comedian Kevin Maher – a confabulation of vintage film clips and videos, new finds, guest experts, games and curiosities. To geek out with Kevin you don’t need to be a geek, you just need to love cool stuff.
This month, Kevin gives the audience a Grab Bag show; instead of one theme it’s an evening filled with astounding odds and ends of entertainment. 7 Special Guests share weird, wonderful multi-media segments, with topics including:
New York City’s Secret History of Pinball
Nice, Nice Baby – an appreciation of Rob Van Winkle (a.k.a. Vanilla Ice)
Turkish Cinema’s Greatest Hits (i.e. rip-offs of E.T., Rambo and Star Wars)
The 1999 video-game (starring Tina Fey) that was too hot for Wal-Mart
Death Tweets – a prediction of what douche-bags will write when celebrities die
What happens to Arnold Schwarzenegger when "An Actor Prepares"
And the slide-show adventures of Flat Stan Lee
Guest Speakers/Presenters include:
Cartoonist Sam Henderson (SpongeBob Squarepants, The Magic Whistle)
Kate Hutchinson (from the blog Love Train for the Tenebrous Empire)
Seth Porges (writer, former technology editor of Popular Mechanics)
Matt Carman & Kseniya Yarosh (The Brooklyn ‘Zine Festival)
M. Sweeney Lawless (writer for The Lowbrow Reader)
Susie Felber (writer-performer-social media expert)
Kevin Maher (host/producer) is an Emmy-nominated comedy writer whose work has appeared on Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and HBO. Kevin hosted AMC’s The Sci-Fi Department (short-listed for a Webby Award) and created the viral Comedy Central web series “Old People News” and “Puppet Rodeo.” And recently Kevin created the character “Andrew 12-Sided Dice Clay” (a geek comic whose web-series is coming soon.)
Kevin hosted The Paley Center’s live-screening of the 2010 Academy Awards (the only Academy-sanctioned screening in New York).
On a dare, Kevin once wrote 100 haiku about Batman (for Kevin Geeks Out About Batman).
