Stuart Gordon's first feature film—1985's fondly remembered take on the Frankenstein formula, Re-Animator—affirmed his role as a capable practitioner of horror and sci-fi.
The film was a measurable critical and commercial success, demonstrating Gordon's penchant for restrained campiness, gonzo bloodsplatter and gallows humor. It additionally debuted his most integral collaborator, actor Jeffrey Combs, who would reteam with Gordon in his followup, 1986’s From Beyond. The film is also an H.P. Lovecraft adaptation, although it strays even further from the original seven-page story about a scientist who has built, in his attic laboratory, a machine that “wakes a thousand sleeping senses” which are inherited “from aeons of evolution from the state of detached electrons to the state of organic humanity.” Once awakened, these organs reveal a terrifying multitude of organisms that crowd the air around us, writhing in a dimension outside time and space. Advancing Re-Animator's mercurial balance between the ludicrous and the macabre, From Beyond is considerably more sophisticated and less tongue-in-cheek than its more popular precursor and one of the most committed and psychedelic of Lovecraft adaptations.

Who is eligible for priority registration?
Individuals who have participated in 92nd Street Y programs over the past year in selected program areas, participants in certain memberships, and those who have made contributions of $500 or more to 92Y, are eligible to register for programs before they become available to the general public.
How do I know if I qualify?
Patrons that qualify for Priority Registration will receive packets in the mail explaining how to purchase online. Priority registration is normally mailed 2-3 weeks before a catalog is available. Registration information includes your Patron ID#. You can use this ID# to setup your login information online. This will allow you to register early for a course or event. Please note: if you receive a packet, you are only eligible to priority register for the programs covered in your packet.
