“Fever” is a great song with a fascinating history.
It made the journey from R&B (Little Willie John) to mainstream pop (Peggy Lee) and then, surprisingly, into rock & roll (Elvis Presley). But, as audio and video excerpts show, the song’s trajectory and history also make for a fascinating look at what the popular song is, what a standard is and what the blues are—and how they all affect and interact with each other.
