Quirky folk meets introspective shoe-gaze on an evening with three of the finest up-and-coming indie bands from around the Northeast.
Cuddle Magic is a large ensemble and songwriting collective based in Brooklyn and Philadelphia. With nary an electric guitar in sight, Cuddle Magic uses a quiet 20th century palette – vibraphone, clarinet, muted trumpet, banjo, ukulele, violin, vocal counterpoint, etc. – to create a rhythmically sophisticated folk music from an imaginary folk. The members of Cuddle Magic have collaborated with a diverse range of artists, including Beyonce, Anais Mitchell, the David Wax Museum, Larkin Grimm, Joy Kills Sorrow, Fred Frith and legendary "third-stream" pianist Ran Blake.
You Won't is the Massachusetts-based musical duo of Josh Arnoudse and Raky Sastri. Since first encountering each other as brilliant, tortured high school theater geniuses, they have conspired to produce many strange and endearing works of art. Their music has been praised, lauded, and spit-shined by the likes of KEXP, SPIN, PopMatters, and many other internet-based taste-making apparatuses. Most recently, My Folking Heart labeled them "genre-defying musical chameleons." In a good way.
New York City indie-pop quartet, These Animals, create a mix of dreamy pop and dance-able rock and roll. With keen pop sensibilities, their sixties-inspired harmonies sit comfortably on top of expansive guitar textures and toe-tapping rhythms.
