From the creators of the cultishly beloved show Get A Life, this doggedly idiosyncratic gem chronicles the seafaring adventures of “fancy lad” Nathanial Mayweather (Chris Elliott), a be-wigged finishing-school snob who accidentally winds up on rustic fishing boat The Filthy Whore.
Bullied into taking on first-mate duties by the ship’s collection of grizzly seamen who live “to catch fish and stink,” Nathanial finds himself on a journey taking him far away from his christening wig and deep into Hell’s Bucket, a no man’s land of increasingly bizarre mythical creatures. Originally intended for Tim Burton, the film was eventually handed over to Elliott and his long-time collaborator Adam Resnick, who proceeded to fashion something more uniquely peculiar than Burton could have ever conceived—equal parts go-for-broke absurdist tomfoolery and deeply earnest throwback to Old Hollywood adventures on the high seas. “Cabin Boy is flush with endearingly offbeat touches…where a reference to Coleridge’s ‘The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner’ can co-exist with surreal interludes involving a ‘big, fat-ass floating cupcake’ and a half-shark/half-man named Chocki.” – Scott Tobias, The AV Club’s New Cult Canon
8:30 pm Q&A with Elliott and Resnick will take place in the Mainstage space. Ticket holders for both screenings are welcome to attend. (Note: If you have an 8:30 pm ticket, you will have a seat in the 9:30 pm screening following the Q&A).
