Shababa™ Mamas Vocal Group

The Shababa Mamas are an open, welcoming group of women who love to sing and spread meaningful, joyous Jewish and universal messages throughout their community and the broader community at large.

Founded in 2009, the Shababa Mamas program has brought together 19 mothers as a sisterhood and vocal ensemble that performs at Shababa events and at venues including hospitals, domestic violence shelters, Ronald McDonald House, the Jewish Home for the Aged and DOROT. 2012 saw the formation of the Shababa Bubbies, the Shababa Abbas, the Shababa Sparks—about 30 children age 10 and under—and even the Shababa Nannies, who couldn’t resist getting in on the action themselves.

Intergenerational connections run between all of the groups, as the Shababa spirit infuses families with a Jewish identity that extends beyond the walls of 92nd Street Y.

Do you want to become a Shababa™ Mama? If you're a music-lover, play an instrument or sing, please contact Karina Zilberman, Director of Jewish Family Life and Culture at 212.415.5766 or email. Aunts and grandmothers are welcome.
