Aubade

Jocelyn Casey-Whiteman

Birds
blue flames
in the rain wet tree.

A stand of pines
italicized.
Pixels

of an entire sky.
The mind, torn
to gray horses

collects.
What remains.
The body exhausted

but not the breath.
Water shapes stones
shape water.

Sacred hope.
The ability
to sense the space

inside the tree.
To see the tree
the shadow

the distance between.
To love them.
To love them all at once.
