It’s a simple idea: a day at the start of the holiday season, to celebrate America’s great tradition of generosity.
You can stop by 92Y on December 3 to get in on the #GivingTuesday action. Here’s how:
Make a contribution to 92Y (it’s worth double, with our matching grant) and put a leaf on our #GivingTuesday “tree” in honor of something you care about. (all day)
Take an #unselfie photo in front of the tree and share it with your friends on Twitter or Instagram for #GivingTuesday (all day)
Stop by the Jewelry Sale to scoop up beautiful pieces from 92Y’s Jewelry Center students and teachers, with 30% of the proceeds to benefit 92Y (9 am–4 pm)
Enjoy music and dance performances featuring 92Y Dance faculty (1 pm) and 92Y School of Music’s rock band and glee club followed by Menorah Lighting (4:30 pm), plus the 92Y Himan Brown Senior Rappers! (2 pm).
Bring your family to 92Y for fun activities from Mommy Nearest: see a magician and balloon artist in the morning; donate new or lightly used toys and clothing and put a sticker on Mommy Nearest’s donation “thermometer;” visit the mobile photo booth just outside 92Y on Lexington Avenue.
Or, head down to 1 Oak (453 W. 17th Street) for Give A Jam, a #GivingTuesday celebration and fundraising party (7–10 pm). All proceeds go to 92Y’s Educational Outreach programs, which serve over 10,000 NYC public students annually. To purchase advance tickets, visit: www.92y.org/GiveAJam
The idea of giving back is central to our mission at 92nd Street Y. So, in the spirit of tikkun olam (repairing the world), we got together with our friends at The United Nations Foundation—and brought together nonprofits and business large and small. Millions of individuals and 2,750 organizational partners participated last year, and helped to raise more than $10 million for causes around the country that day.
This year, #GivingTuesday already has more than 7,000 partners, as well as a growing number of partner countries, including Australia, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Singapore and an organized effort in Latin America.
In 2013, what started right here at 92Y is reaching people around the world. We need your help to continue creating world-class programs—around the world, and right here at home.
