Patricia P. Capello, MA, BC-DMT, NCC, LCAT is a Senior Dance/Movement Therapist and Acting Team Leader for the Therapeutic Activities Service at Maimonides Medical Center’s Department of Psychiatry in Brooklyn, New York. While earning her BA in Psychology and Dance from CUNY Brooklyn College where she focused on Graham technique, Ms. Capello was co-owner of a community dance studio teaching a variety of dance forms to children and adults. Following her MA in Dance/Movement Therapy from New York University where she performed with the Judith Scott Dance Theatre, she went on to become a member of the adjunct faculty in the Department of Dance and Dance Education. Ms. Capello has served over 16 years on the Board of Directors of the American Dance Therapy Association and is Associate Chair of The International Panel.
In addition to training and supervising students both in the US and abroad, Ms. Capello maintains a private practice specializing in developmentally delayed adults. Her writing is featured in the recently published book The Art and Science of Dance/Movement Therapy: Life is Dance (Routledge; 2009) and as a regular contributor to The American Journal of Dance Therapy.
