Reel Pieces presents a preview of Love Is Strange, acclaimed at the Tribeca, Sundance and Berlin Film Festivals.
Moderator Annette Insdorf will interview Director Ira Sachs and Actor John Lithgow after a screening of the 98-minute drama.
John Lithgow stars this summer in the Central Park King Lear and has appeared on Broadway 20 times (winning 2 Tony Awards out of 5 nominations). He was also Oscar-nominated for his performances in The World According to Garp as well as Terms of Endearment. Among his numerous other films are Kinsey, Footloose and The Manhattan Project. He received 11 Emmy nominations (winning 4) for his TV work, notably in "3rd Rock From the Sun" and "Dexter."
Ira Sachs' previous film, Keep the Lights On, was nominated for 4 Independent Spirit Awards including Best Feature. He also directed the Sundance Grand Prize winner Forty Shades of Blue, and Married Life with Chris Cooper, Rachel McAdams, Pierce Brosnan and Patricia Clarkson.
Love Is Strange is a contemporary tale about a same-sex couple (Lithgow and Alfred Molina) finally able to marry after decades of long-term commitment. But their wedding leads to complications, as financial and real estate challenges force them to live separately till an affordable apartment can be found. As Joshua Rothkopf wrote in TIME OUT, "It's an essential—and essentially New York—story about limited room, limited time but incalculable attachment."
