Just in time for Mothers Day, bestselling author and film producer Peter Gethers joins the New York Times’ Melissa Clark for a conversation about food, family and the meaning of life.

Peter’s mother, Judy Gethers, discovered a passion for food in her 50s and, in time, became a mentor and friend to some of the most famous chefs in America. Discovering the colorful stories of her life — and the meals she loved — is the basis for Peter’s new book, a witty and knowing memoir about how food and family do more than feed us — they nourish our souls.

Brief Bios

Peter Gethers is an author, screenwriter, playwright, book publisher, and film and television producer. His previous books include The Cat Who Went to Paris, the first book in a bestselling trilogy about his extraordinary cat Norton. He is also the co-creator and co-producer of the hit off-Broadway play, Old Jews Telling Jokes. He lives in New York City and Sag Harbor, New York.

Melissa Clark is a food writer and columnist for The New York Times. Her work has received awards from the James Beard Foundation and IACP (International Association of Culinary Professionals), and been selected for the Best American Food Writing series. She is a staff writer for The New York Times Dining Section, where she writes the popular column: A Good Appetite. She appears in weekly cooking videos at www.nytimes.com/dining and was short-listed for a Webby Award in 2012.

Clark has written 35 cookbooks, many of them in collaboration with New York’s most celebrated chefs, including Daniel Boulud (Braise), David Bouley (East of Paris), Andrew Feinberg (Franny’s), Claudia Fleming (The Last Course), Bruce and Eric Bromberg (The Blue Ribbon) and former White House pastry chef Bill Yosses (The Perfect Finish). She is currently working on a cookbook called Dinner, a game-changing manifesto to be published by Clarkson Potter in 2017.

Clark has made many television appearances, and is a regular guest on the Today Show and the Rachael Ray show. She has also been a judge on Iron Chef America. She’s been a frequent guest host on the NPR radio show, The Splendid Table, and is a regular guest on the Leonard Lopate show on WNYC.

Clark was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, where she now lives with her husband, Daniel Gercke, and their daughter Dahlia.

Who is eligible for priority registration?

Individuals who have participated in 92nd Street Y programs over the past year in selected program areas, participants in certain memberships, and those who have made contributions of $500 or more to 92Y, are eligible to register for programs before they become available to the general public.

How do I know if I qualify?

Patrons that qualify for Priority Registration will receive packets in the mail explaining how to purchase online. Priority registration is normally mailed 2-3 weeks before a catalog is available. Registration information includes your Patron ID#. You can use this ID# to setup your login information online. This will allow you to register early for a course or event. Please note: if you receive a packet, you are only eligible to priority register for the programs covered in your packet.
