The aging Lear fantasizes a semiretirement, letting his three daughters take over.

He sets a trap: Who shows most love earns the biggest slice. Slather me in sycophantic verbiage. The first two girls do a terrific job, but the youngest decides to tell her father the truth. All hell breaks loose. The old king ends up abandoned in a storm worthy of the damned on the back wall of the Sistine Chapel. And this is only part one!

Brief Bio

Bob Smith has been teaching Shakespeare seminars at 92Y for over 20 years and is the author of Hamlet’s Dresser: A Memoir. The New York Times described Smith as, “Contagious...a plain spoken autodidact whose passion for Shakespeare regularly breaks attendance records...when Bob Smith twinkles at full throttle there’s star dust everywhere.” Library Journal dubbed him, “The teacher we all should’ve had to introduce us to Shakespeare.” The Boston Globe calls him, “Inspired and inspiring.” In Toronto The Globe and Mail found Bob, “Open, warm, funny, generous, spontaneous, thoughtful and entirely’s Smith’s ability to find the common humanity in even the most different of us that traces itself to his Shakespeare obsession.”
