Gamble Staempfli

Gamble Staempfli was born in 1973 in New York City. Today he lives and works in Beacon, NY. Gamble earned his BFA in painting from Bard College, and graduated cum laude with an MFA from The New York Academy of Art, specializing in classical figurative painting. In May of 2000, his first solo show, entitled On Dogs opened at F/P Fine Arts in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Gamble has since participated in numerous exhibitions in the US and Europe, with paintings and sculpture in various local and overseas collections. He has been interviewed for NPR's "Studio 360", and more recently his drawing Heaven of Dogs was exhibited at the Grand Rapids Museum of Art.

Gambles work is typified by an acute adherence to classical technique with a more forward thinking approach to contemporary modes of composition and expression.

In addition to courses in sculpture and drawing, Gamble has been teaching painting at 92nd Street Y for over a decade. He has enjoyed watching his students engage deeply with the process of art making, and mature into accomplished artists themselves.
