What is 92Y Shababa Network?
Shababa was born at the 92nd Street Y in 2007. What began as an intergenerational Shabbat experience for families with young children (affectionately known as “Shababa Fridays” here at 92Y) quickly developed into a vast plethora of experiences, celebrating Jewish life and engaging all ages and backgrounds. Young children, parents, caretakers, grandparents and interfaith families, were all among Shababa's diverse, vibrant and growing community, growing not only in numbers, but in the meaningful connections people experienced with Judaism and with one another.
The 92nd Street Y felt this success had to be shared.
Created by Karina Zilberman, the Shababa approach to intergenerational Jewish experience honors the unique needs of each community and offers tools and support to educators, clergy and lay leaders seeking a transformative and joyful Jewish life for their communities. This is the journey of the Shababa Network.
92Y Shababa Network is a community development platform designed to inspire, transform, create and celebrate Jewish family experiences. It is a group of passionate experiential educators/leaders and their organizations, supporting each other through collaboration and the sharing ideas, best practices and strategies for community engagement.
