Theresa Kim is a pianist of remarkable presence and command at the keyboard, captivating audiences equally with the depth of her interpretations and charismatic grace on stage. Performances have taken Ms. Kim on tour throughout the United States and abroad to North Korea, South Korea, Russia, Hungary, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Israel and the Czech Republic.
Hailed as a “stylish” artist by the New York Times, Ms. Kim’s Avery Fisher Hall debut at Lincoln Center was met with a rousing standing ovation. She has subsequently appeared in recital and as soloist with orchestra in prominent venues such as Carnegie Hall, Steinway Hall, Merkin Hall, The Staller Center, Alice Tully Hall, The John Harms Theatre, Morristown South Street Theatre, Count Basie and Crescent Theatres, the State Theatre of New Jersey, Newark Symphony Hall, and the Yamaha Salon, among others.
Ms. Kim has garnered top prizes in competitions such as the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra Auditions, Ibla Grand Prix, Corpus Christi International Competition, Young Keyboard Artists Associations International Competition, and the Young Artist Competition of New Jersey. Appearances with orchestra in recent seasons have included collaborations with celebrated conductors Jahja Ling, Zdenek Macal, Mariusz Smolij, Anthony Aibel, and Neal Gittleman with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Seoul University National Orchestra, Ureuk Symphony, BRNO Philharmonic, The National Orchestra of Pyongyang, and The Juilliard Orchestra. An avid chamber musician, Ms. Kim played with the Miraflores Trio until 2008, which was hailed by the Santa Barbara Independent as “the hit ensemble of this year,” whose Brahms was “soaring and glorious.” Star News hailed them as “Pure Joy!” in concert.
A prodigious talent, Ms. Kim made her debut with the Seoul National University Orchestra at Merkin Concert Hall at the age of ten. That year, she was admitted to the Pre-College Division at The Juilliard School. She later attained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from The Juilliard School as a pupil of Yoheved Kaplinsky and Jerome Lowenthal. Additionally, she holds a Master of Education degree from Columbia University. Ms. Kim coaches at Chamber Music Associates and maintains a private studio in New York City. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the outreach non-profit Han Concert and is frequently seen as an adjudicator for competitions in the tri-state area. She is the founder and director of Hamptons Music Sessions, a premier summer festival in Long Island.
